Although, it may seem out of the context, but today has little or no importance in the mobility industry, especially to most people. “Most people” in this context being, amongst others, entrepreneurs, scientists, futurists and doers. To them, what matters the most is tomorrow and of course, the future. That is the age we live in — the age of futuristic inventions, a welcome panacea to the insatiable wants of men.

As a result, several industries have been affected most positively, in order to serve the people more than they ever did in the past years. These changes are even more rampant in recent times as a result of the prevailing industrial revolution and its technologies. The Mobility industry is one which has been heavily impacted by these technologies.

Tesla is a popular name; perhaps, just as much as Elon Musk, the man behind numerous innovative inventions, one of which is Tesla automobiles. His is a great example of what the future of mobility looks like, essentially instilling an endless imagination of what comes next. Kevin Roberts, a Senior Transportation and Automobile analyst once said: “The future of mobility is about striving towards environmental friendly, integrated, automated, and personalized travel on demand”. Some other experts claimed that by 2030, one will see less of parking and more of infrastructures to cater for scooters, bikes and other means of transportation.

Over the years, this industry has transformed from what was an ordinary transportation sector, to something extraordinary and more customer/user centric. Many technology innovators have seized mobility as a complementary business model to their core competencies. Autonomous, shared and electric vehicles being popular innovations in recent times, are nevertheless, the sole breakthroughs in mobility.

With the integration of the Internet of Things(IoT), connected cars emerged with the capacity of providing valuable services to drivers and relevant and reliable information to the companies. This breakthrough also enabled cars to be equally capable of being aware of their surroundings and avoid accidents, after being equipped with sensors and electronic control modules, Vehicle-to-Vehicle(V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure(V2I).

Big data is yet another key ingredient in this transformative era for mobility, as it provides effective and predictive analytics as well as machine learning which would aid maintenance and management in transport networks. Several startups are also inventing ways to monetize and share car data enabling companies to provide their customers with new services.

Autonomous vehicles, being a popular invention of the century, brought an important contribution to traffic optimization and passenger safety. It is perhaps the most sought after, especially for those who can afford it. Augmented reality is another space transforming the industry. This is because the head-up display systems which are currently being perfected, have the ability to present warnings, alerts, and safety aids on invisible screens which are embedded in the car’s windshield. Asides this, they are also expected to revolutionize the aircrafts.

There are also several other innovations in the mobility space. One of such innovations is shared mobility, which is an invention sequel to hailing a ride involving car, bike or boat sharing. Another is called “Mobility as a Service”. It offers the consumer the possibility of accessing different vehicles whilst using the same digital platform. There are also others such as Lightweight materials, which enable the use of 3D printing in the production of cars.

There is no gainsaying the fact that the new gold and most sought after possession is data. As a result, a secured means of collecting, storing and sharing data, becomes as germane as the data itself. Similarly, as the world is moving towards a more decentralized system and less of centralized systems, Blockchain in Mobility will undoubtedly be the next big thing.

As such, Jelurida Swiss SA is in conjunction with the EIT urban mobility for the Mobility Talks 3, themed; Blockchain and Mobility, , A call for startup. This is an opportunity for startups using blockchain in the mobility sector to showcase their projects at the upcoming Mobility Talks online event. Deadline for the submission of entries is 11th of June, 00:00 UTC. A seemingly rare opportunity to showcase innovations before a large international audience.

Jelurida Swiss SA is a blockchain software conglomerate with branches and representatives across the globe. It provides easy-to-integrate blockchain enterprise solutions. EIT Urban mobility is an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Since January 2019, it has successfully embarked on encouraging positive changes in the way people move around cities.
